This was a domestic residential project in Walthamstow which involved the creation of a pair of staircases, designed to integrate into a kitchen worktop. The first leads up to the hallway whilst the other curves up into the living space of the home, both of which have floors which are level with the worktop surface. A double height space over the staircases introduces an interesting sense of scale and spaciousness.
The client's cat's tendency to prowl the worktop surface led to the apt title of 'catwalk'. Clear story windows were introduced with the intention of allowing light to penetrate deeply into the plan whilst affording views of the lush garden. The large extension was granted permission through the Permitted Development larger homes Scheme.
